Manufacturing Month is a celebration of modern manufacturing meant to inspire the next generation of manufacturers. It addresses common misperceptions about manufacturing by giving manufacturers an opportunity to open their doors and show what manufacturing is — and what it isn’t. To match up with Manufacturing Day, which takes place on October 5th this year, the state of Ohio celebrates Manufacturing Month the entire month of October.
The Emerging Talent Network (ETN) is a JumpStart program that launched in 2017 to connect qualified Cleveland Metropolitan School District (CMSD) 11th grade and emerging 12th grade students with local companies for summer internships and full-time employment. WIRE-Net began partnering with ETN shortly after the program launched to leverage the program’s resources, CMSD relationships, and company relationships to meet the needs of the manufacturing students and companies we work with at Max S. Hayes High School.

WIRE-Net continues to hear about the critical workforce challenges that Northeast Ohio manufacturers are experiencing and the questions they have around how to be more innovative and effective with talent management. One of the ways that WIRE-Net is assisting to bridge this gap and meet manufacturers needs is by offering internship opportunities to high-schoolers at Max S. Hayes High School and Parma Senior High.
Since its inception in 2013, the WIRE-Net youth internship program has provided a steady and sustainable pipeline of permanent employees to participating companies and provided students with real-world experience to learn skills required for jobs and careers in the manufacturing industry.
