I enjoyed another great lunch and presentation with WIRE-Net members yesterday at the DoubleTree in Independence. Mark Norfolk, President for Fabrisonic LLC, mapped his own journey in technological design and metal 3D printing advances from 2007 to 2015, while dispelling any fears that his new 3D printing process would be putting forgers or stampers out of business anytime soon! His process creates net-shape solid metal parts using solid state ultrasonic metal welding and CNC contour milling for small orders of specialty parts. There are three reasons to be excited about this new process, especially for the aerospace, oil and gas, and defense industries:

Last week, on June 18 and 19, I attended the R3D@ Tri-C-Regional 3D Printing and Additive Manufacturing Conference held at Tri-C's Advanced Technology Training Center in Cleveland, Ohio. The event, which was put on in partnership with MAGNET, attracted a diverse crowd made up of manufacturers, and area university and economic development leaders. The keynote address, given by Tim Caffrey of Wohlers Associates, laid out the dynamics within this evolving and fast growing industry.
